LDS Seminary - News Broadcast- Book of Mormon - Teaching Moroni 19-21 - The Lehi Nephi Morning News

Whenever I feel like I've been doing all the talking I have a day where the students get to teach.  This time I decided to make it into a Newscast.  I divided the class into 8 groups and gave each group a paper to write their newscast, and a paper to draw a picture to go with their newscast.  I gave them about 5 minutes to get it done.  Then I called each group up to present their news cast.  I started it off with the picture above and a recap of the events that preceded Mosiah 19.

As the groups came up I took a picture with my phone of their drawing.  I then "aired" the picture on the TV Screen as they presented the newscast.

Here's a copy of the page for each group to draw on.  Make 8 copies (one for each group).  Click on the picture to make it large.  Then copy and paste it into your printing program, or save it into your pictures.

Here is a printout for each of the 8 groups Newscasts:

I have to say it was fun to see all of the students involved.  As always when I do something like this that I see the students who don't pay attention as the ones who get into it the most.  It was a fun day!

Here are some of the pictures that my class drew for their Newscast:

I hope this idea is helpful for you.  I think that you could adapt it to any lesson.  Good luck!

Book of Mormon Liahona Gift, Activity and Printout

I teach Seminary and wanted a fun craft type of activity to do with my students along with a cute little gift for Christmas.  We are studying the Book of Mormon this year so I wanted my gift to go along with what we have studied.

I found the Ferrero Rocher chocolates at Costco.  A box of 12 was only $10, so they ended up costing under $1 a gift!  Then I printed out these labels to glue onto the package.  I just used a glue stick and it worked fine.

To make a copy for yourself just click on the picture to make it large.  Then copy and paste it into your printing program, or save it into your pictures.  Size it to fit a full sheet of paper.

and here is the tag to attach to the Lehi's Luscious Leahona's
I printed mine on gold cardstock that I bought at Walmart.

I really wanted the students to make a Liahona, but I had all of these images of the student's taking them to school and getting smashed, or just throwing them away. So I came up with this craft activity that will fit into their journal.  Surprisingly, they seemed to really enjoy doing the craft.

I thought that this could be a fun craft project for Primary or Family Home Evening.  It's cheap and easy to do.  Plus is doesn't make a big mess!

I bought a bunch of rhinestone stickers at Michael's, along with metallic pens.

I had them color and put the stickers on as I taught the lesson.  Easy, cheap, and the Liahona's won't get ruined!

Just click on the picture to make it large.  Then save it into your pictures or copy and paste it into your printing program.

I printed mine on cardstock to make it more sturdy.

I have to say that I was pleased with the response of the students.  Most of them really appreciated a craft and they could listen while they worked.  I don't do this very often, but there are some students who really respond to an activity once in awhile.

Here are a couple of examples of finished projects:

I also have a large printout that you can use:

Please let me know how yours turned out.
I would love to hear about your experience!
