LDS Seminary Class Scripture Study idea

Today we studied D&C 100.  As the students came in I assigned each student a scripture from that section. They each were to read the scripture.  Then they were to explain the scripture and tell us which words were important to that scripture.  Then finally they were to ask a question about that scripture.  It went really well so I thought that I would take the time to share this idea.  Below is a copy of the assignment that I put up on the board.

To print it out just click on the picture to make it larger.  Then right click and save it into your pictures, or copy and paste it into your printing program.

I am sure that you can do this with any Scripture block.  Good luck with your class!

LDS Seminary "Reach One More" Goal - "Be a fisher of men, bring a friend" Reminder Handout

To work on our goal of "reach one more" our Seminary building planned a "bring a friend" day.  Each student was to invite a friend to Seminary.  Each class gave a short lesson and then we had a continental breakfast for the students in the cultural hall.  For my lesson I showed the Mormon Message "Origin" and then had all the students and visitors write a question on a small piece of paper.  I had them hand  in the questions and then I read them out loud. I had my students answer the questions. It really turned out great. We had about 7 visitors per class.

On the day before the breakfast we studied section 100 where Sidney Rigdon and Joseph Smith went on their mission to New York.  This section had some great scriptures on missionary work.  After the lesson I gave each student a small bag of Goldfish with the note attached "Be a fisher of men, bring a friend" to help give them an incentive to ask a friend.  Below are the printouts if you would like to do this project.

To use these printouts just click on the picture to make it large.  Then right click and save it into your pictures, or copy and paste it into your printing program.

Plan of Salvation Cut-Outs in Spanish and in English - Great for Missionaries!

I have two small versions of the Plan of Salvation.  The first one is in Spanish, the second in English.

I had designed this for my Seminary class, but in a much larger version.  Then a friend showed me a smaller version that she had sent to her missionary in Chili.  She told me that her son loved using it and it actually converted a family when they could visualize it.  I wanted to send one to my daughter serving in Guatemala. I searched for my friend's version, but could not find it, so I just adapted my version.

Here's a picture of it cut and laid out on a table:

English Version

Since I already have this in English (only in large) I thought I might as well make a small version for those English speaking missionaries.  Here it is below.

If you don't have a laminating machine, you can purchase sticky laminating sheets that work just as well.  The brand that I use is called SelfSeal, but I'm sure that there are other brands.

Draw the Scriptures for Seminary - D&C 89 The Word of Wisdom

I know that my students have had numerous lessons on keeping the Word of Wisdom.  I thought that it would be fun to have each student draw one of the scriptures from this section.  I made a sheet for each of the scriptures and then had them color it while I gave the lesson.  I took the drawings home that night and scanned them all and then put the drawings on my I-phone.  The next day I showed them on my projector while one of the students read each verse.

If you would like to do this in your classroom I have a master copy that you can use because I did keep of copy of each verse.  An idea that you could use is to have each student write in the verse that they were assigned with their picture.

Here's how my class' turned out:

As you can see, some students did a great job, others, maybe not so much.  But it broke up a the monotony of a lesson every day, and it was fun.

****2019 Update****

I did this again with my students and I thought that it went very well.  I taught the lesson while they drew.  Here is a link to my 2019 class' version.

BINGO

I also thought that it would be fun to play BINGO with the Scripture Mastery that we had learned up until now.  I started out with having the kids fill out the review sheet (above).  I like to make it a competition where one side of the room competes with the other side of the room.  I let them all help each other.  When they were finished I gave them each a bingo paper.  They filled it in with the 15 Scripture Mastery that they have learned and then they got a free space.  I cut up the scripture mastery review sheet to use for calling the scripture that they should mark.  Since it was Valentine's Day I gave them each a box of valentine candy hearts to mark the Bingo spots.  That way we could play it several times.  We really had a lot of fun.

Heads Up for D&C
A fun game that we played this week was like the game Heads Up that the kids play with their cell phone only you can use an app that is called Card Creator ($1.99).  I put in all of the Scripture Mastery that we have had until this point.  I also put in a lot of the words that we have been using in our Seminary class like: Joseph Smith, dispensation, bishop, John the Baptist, Zion, etc.  It was so much fun and the kids loved it!

The Seminary in a Sack item for this scripture mastery is an eraser.  We found one that said "oops"on it, which the students really liked.
