Lesson 149: Doctrine and Covenants 136:19–42 - Make a "Comfort Quilt" for the Mormon Pioneers as They Crossed the Plains.

During this lesson I had the students search through D&C 136:18-42 to find words of comfort that would help the pioneers journey across the plains.  I gave each student a paper Quilt block and then they took turns sharing the scripture that they found and why that scripture would bring comfort to the pioneers.  As they took turns I took their quilt block and placed it on the board to form a quilt for the journey.

I also gave the students this quote from President Monson to put into their journals.  I had them write about how they can be a modern day pioneer.

The Mormon Trail - A Handout to go with Lesson 148: The Trek across Iowa; (and Mormon Battalion) Doctrine and Covenants 136:1–18

Joseph Smith's picture in Lego's Pirates of the Caribbean Game

I saw on Twitter that someone had found a picture of Joseph Smith in the Lego's Pirates of the Caribbean Game.  That was just too good to pass up.  Since we are studying the D&C in my seminary class I had to use it as an example of just how world wide the name Joseph Smith had become.  It has even passed into the realm of Lego Games.  I made this meme out of it to show my class:

The Nauvoo Temple - Fact Sheet Handout

Since we are studying Nauvoo and May 1st is the anniversary of the dedication of the Nauvoo Temple I decided to make a handout for my class about the temple.  All of the facts come directly from these two church websites:

Seminary Class Reward For Coming After the Daylight Savings Time Change - Fun Dips

I got a box of Valentine's Fun Dip on clearance.  I thought that it would be fun to reward the students who came to class after the time had changed to an hour earlier.  I used the fun dips and taped on the saying  below.

The Building of the Kirtland Temple - Drawn by my LDS Seminary Students

I started out by giving each student a copy of the handout below.  It has the architectural drawings of the Kirtland Temple. On the back it has all the facts that are from the LDS Kirtland Temple page.  To use my pictures and printouts just right click on them to make them large.  Then save them into your pictures, or copy and paste them into your printing program.

Since we have been studying the Doctrine and Covenants, and since we are at D&C 109, the Kirtland Temple Dedication, I thought that we should take the time to discuss all the work that went into the building of the Kirtland Temple.  I gave each student a small paper telling them a story about the sacrifice that went into building the Kirtland Temple.  They then drew a picture of it, wrote a sentence about it, and then shared it with the class.

I scanned the pictures and sent them to my I -phone and then showed them on the projector with the song "The Spirit of God".  I then took the originals and made it into a book to display in my classroom. You could also do a powerpoint if you were ambitious.
