Noah's Ark Rainbow Covenant Activity for Youth Groups with a discussion, craft and games. Includes FREE printouts for your activity.

Since it is March and rainbows are very popular in March, I thought it would be nice to talk about how the rainbow is a covenant between the Lord, Noah and Noah's seed (us).

GROUP DISCUSSION

We discussed the story as a group.  Everyone helped to put together the story of Noah's Ark.  Then we read the scriptures out of
Genesis 9, highlighting the words covenant, seed, and bow.

We discussed what covenants are, and what covenants that they had made with the Lord.  We also discussed how they renew their covenants every Sunday when they take the Sacrament.

Here's a handout of the scriptures to make it easy to read:

You could also start by using this quiz that I made
when I taught Seminary:

Here's a printout of the definition of a covenant:

Here's a smaller version that you can send home with the kids.
I like to print my handouts on bright colored paper.

I also have this other printout from Seminary if you would want to discus how Noah followed God's commandments.

For my lesson we just discussed covenants.

Here's a smaller version that you can send home with the kids:

CRAFT

Items Needed:

Covenant Cloud printout (below).
Foam paper or colored paper cut into 1"strips in red,
orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.
White glue
Glue stick
Hot glue gun
Sharpie markers
Optional: various trinkets and glitter

After the discussion we did the rainbow craft.
I did it before the games so that the glue would have time
to dry before the girls went home.

I mentioned that rainbows have a color pattern and that
they might want to follow that pattern.
I gave each girl a copy of the cloud covenant below,
printed on cardstock:

I also gave them a one inch foam strip of each color in a rainbow.
I cut the strips on a paper cutter.

I set out glue, had a glue gun, sharpie markers and various glitters and items leftover from other crafts.   I also told them about how the Young Women have Value Colors, so most of them wrote the value color on their rainbow craft.

The girl's seemed to love the craft and especially loved designing their own version of the craft.

Games

Here is a photo of the items that I bought at the
dollar store for our games.

Items needed:
A big bag of skittles
Straws
2 plates or bowls
Small cups
2 printout of rainbows (below)
Optional: Dollar Tree animal masks

Game 1: Make a Rainbow with Skittles

Print two copies of the rainbow printout below.
I like to print it on cardstock.

Pour the Skittles into two plates.

It's a good idea to let the girls have a couple of Skittles
before you start because they will all want to eat them
instead of playing the game.

Place the plates on one side of the room and the rainbow
printouts on the other side of the room.
Divide the group into two teams.
Pick a captain for each team .
When you say "go" have the girls put on an
animal mask and pick up a straw.

When each team member has their mask on and their straw
they walked over to their plate of Skittles.
Using the straw they suck up one Skittle and then
walked it over to the rainbow and placed it in the
appropriate color of the rainbow.

The entire team can all
go at the same time.  It took about 5 minutes
to get a decent Skittle rainbow.

The captain has to pay
attention to if all the colors are getting filled in and
if they are on the appropriate rainbow line.
They also have to settle any disputes over the masks
and count the Skittles at the end.

While the captain is counting the Skittles on their rainbow, have the team members pick up all the skittles that have fallen to the floor.

The team with the most Skittles on their rainbow wins.

Game 2: Make a Skittle rainbow in a cup as a team.

Give each team one cup.  When you say "go"  both teams sends one player over to the rainbow to get one color of Skittle.  That player runs the cup back to the team and then the next player runs to get a different color of Skittle.  They keep on going until they have all the colors of the rainbow.

The team that gets all the colors first wins.

Game 3: Each player gets every color of Skittles.

Every player on each team gets a cup.  When you say "go" one player goes over to the rainbow and takes one Skittle of every color.  So they get five Skittles in all.  Then they player runs back and touches a player on his team and that player runs and gets their five Skittles.  They keep repeating until every player has five Skittles.

The team that finishes first wins.

Treats

I was very lucky since my game was just before St. Patrick's Day and I found these super cute rainbow cup cakes.
The rainbows are actually rings!

I also let every girl take a cup of clean Skittles home with them since I had and extra bag of Skittles.  We threw the game Skittles away.

If your bakery can't bake these for you I found so many
cute ideas on the internet.

Here are a few ideas that you can check out:
